The Role

AIRMO is seeking a highly skilled and motivated SWIR Instrument and Data Processing Engineer/Scientist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in developing and validating AIRMO instruments and data processing algorithms for our methane monitoring missions. This role involves leading scientific support activities, interfacing with engineering team, and ensuring our technology meets the highest standards of accuracy and reliability.

Your responsibilities in AIRMO

  • Lead scientific  activities for the development of SWIR data processors.
  • Generate algorithmic processor specifications and related verification test data.
  • Support development and validation of algorithms for methane detection and other trace gases, ensuring compliance with mission requirements.
  • Author and maintain the Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents and other technical documentation.
  • Conduct performance analysis and review for SWIR instruments.
  • Develop and implement verification and validation plans, including lab tests, simulations, and field tests.
  • Ensure the reliability and accuracy of data through extensive testing and validation under various environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with industrial consortia and review the performance of delivered software against mission criteria.

What you should bring to AIRMO

  • Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and validating algorithms for optical/infrared instruments.
  • Extensive knowledge of radiative transfer, spectroscopy, and data processing techniques.
  • Experience with remote sensing applications, particularly in environmental monitoring.
  • Strong programming skills in high-level languages such as Python, and proficiency with Linux.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to lead and collaborate effectively.
  • Experience with satellite and airborne imaging systems is highly desirable.

Requirements

The minimum requirements for applicants include:

  • Familiarity with radiative transfer models.
  • Experience with hyperspectral imaging.
  • Knowledge of trace gases, cloud and aerosol measurements, and their environmental impacts.
  • Previous experience with scientific analysis and orbit optimization studies.
  • Experience in systems engineering
